Interpersonal conflict in the
workplace is often related to the different personality
traits of organization members. The Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator (MBTI) has been found to be an
effective tool for teaching people in organizations
how to understand and capitalize on the diverse
personal characteristics and work styles of the
other members of their departments and teams.
The MBTI instrument is based
on the theories of Dr. Carl Jung, which were later
adopted and elaborated upon by Katherine Briggs
and Isabel Briggs-Myers. Only a practitioner trained
in its administration and interpretation can use
the MBTI. Bachmann Global Associates has consultants
who are qualified Myers-Briggs practitioners and
have been using the MBTI successfully in organizations
for years.
In a typical MBTI intervention
with a team or department, participants first
take and score the MBTI instrument, and then learn
how to apply the dimensions of Type to their interactions
with co-workers. Teams learn to become stronger
and more effective by capitalizing on the differences
of individual team members.
